Anatomy of an Ideal Blog Post

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

Many blog posts provide social comment or industry comment as one way to provide valuable content for readers in your market niche.

Here are some tips on how to do this effectively. It’s based on a post on Feb 24 2007 on Jack Humphrey’s Friday Traffic Report.

Title: - include primary keyword (links)

Trackback reference to DoshDosh post

Cross reference to:
3 internal links - “deep linked” to related internal pages

Brief comment, ending with…

Call to action

UTW Tags: use long tail keywords (based on your primary keyword)

Opportunity to bookmark or share this post (ShareThis plugin)

Monetize:
Author name with link to offer (Authority Black Book)
Keyword Analyzer banner ad.

Invites comments

Trackback is available.

All of these elements are included within a post of less than 150 words! (See text below)

The only significant element “missing” is outbound tags. The only one is the trackback to DoshDosh - right at the start of the post. This is probably the lowest risk position for an outbound link, since most readers will want to read at least some more of the post before moving elsewhere.

Looking at Jack’s posts over the last 6 weeks, seems to indicate he’s stopped using [tag] in any form within his posts.

Why?

Resource lists still rule the day for generating links…

Dosh Dosh wrote a great piece on linkbait through resource lists recently.

Here are some of the most linked “bait” posts I have made:

* List of 29 Free Video Sharing Sites
* 4 Things The Winners Will Be Doing In 2007
* 7 Blog Promotion Strategies That Work

You can start to see a pattern when you check out linkbait posts that work for others.

How can you create a valuable resource list or post for your niche right now that can take off once people in your niche start linking to it?

It happens everyday. Why not make it happen for your site today?
